Akademi Laut Malaysia Expands Horizons in Maritime Education with Maldives State Shipping

Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM), Malaysia’s premier maritime academy, represented by its operating entity Malaysian Maritime Academy Sdn. Bhd. (MMASB) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Maldives State Shipping (MSS), a subsidiary of the State Trading Organization plc, to drive advancements in maritime education, training, and innovation.

This strategic collaboration aims to address the evolving demands of the maritime industry while fostering the growth of maritime professionals through cutting-edge maritime education, industry-focused training, and groundbreaking research initiatives.

The collaboration includes a merit-based scholarship programme enabling successful applicants from the Maldives to access ALAM’s internationally recognised maritime curriculum, supported by state-of-the-art facilities and expert faculty. It also features enhanced training opportunities and internships with MSS, offering maritime trainees invaluable hands-on experience and practical industry exposure. Additionally, ALAM and MSS will undertake collaborative research to tackle critical industry challenges and drive innovation, while promoting diverse career opportunities to attract and develop future maritime talent.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Quality Education (SDG 4) and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17), this alliance underscores the shared vision of ALAM and MSS to create a dynamic learning environment that prepares students to excel in the maritime sector while contributing to advancements in education, innovation, and sustainability.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalised today in the presence of Mr. Eddie Ahmad Khodzali, CEO of MMASB, and Mr. Ahmed Shareef, Managing Director & CEO of MSS.

The witnesses of the signing were Her Excellency Dr. Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed, High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Malaysia, Captain Ahmed Zubair, Deputy Managing Director, MSS and Ts. Capt. Dr. Manivannan Subramaniam, Chief Executive of ALAM.
